Apparently Nokia has a cool and unique phone in the works that will be able to charge itself without any wires. The phone accomplishes this by harvesting radio waves found in the air and coverts that energy into power for the phone. Such waves are derived from a number of different places, including TVs, radios, computers, and other mobile phones.
Since this phone is still in the development process, it is currently only capable of havesting 5 mw (milliwatts) at a time, which is just not enough to make the phone efficient. Nokia hopes to increase that number to 20 mw in the near future, making it more practicable to the typical cell phone user. While this type of phone does not have any kind of scheduled release date, the hope is that it will be ready within the next 3-4 years.
Wow,that’s really interesting. Nokia may just have the next big thing on their hands and god knows they need this too.
Sounds interesting. I’m constantly forgetting to charge my phone and then running out of bettery when I need it. If they can get this phone out before anyone else does something similar it could be a big seller.
that’s high tech, we should try that gadget I think it’s worth it.
Would not be much help in a desert, I guess, but since we live surrounded by harvesting radio waves – definitely looking forward for this model to come out
This technology began life at Pittsburgh University in 1996 as students worked on a project to power up lost hearing aids in laundry at nursing homes. Its amazing stuff alright and with today’s advances may be nearer than we think.
Excellent article. It was helpful and informative. I have heard about this before, it will cost alot of money in my opinion and wouldnt work as efficient as plugging in.
Awesome little phone the palm pre. This keyword luv is just as good. I’ll have one of those non charging phones
Wow this phone sounds great since I’m always forgetting to charge my phone. Sounds pretty futuristic. Thanks for the information on this phone.
Awesome phone !How much and when r they gonna come out of labs ?
Is this joke? I hope not. If this technology really implement then even on roaming or under signal fluctuating area the phone will never switch off because of battery low, it will always keep charging automatically.
