This is a 43 inch curved LCD, manufactured by the company NEC. Equipped with a resolution of 2880 x 900, refresh rate of 0.02 ms, 10,000:1 contrast ration, USB & HDMI ports, and a whopping price tag of $8,000, many people believe that the future of TV’s are headed this way.
This LCD is created by basically ’sewing’ together 4 smaller LCD’s and making them into one bigger one, which allows for its unique curve. Rival company Alienware has developed their own version as well with equal specs, only theirs measures 5 inches longer. This TV/monitor was originally designed for use by businesses and people who sought giant monitors for their computers. The official release date for this state-of-the-art curved TV is set for mid July, 2009.
For some reason I don’t think very many of these TVs will sell with a price tag of $8,000 – especially during these tough economical times. At least it should help lower costs of regular LCDs and plasmas and will eventually fall in price as time passes.
While those are cool and all, I don’t think they will ever get very popular, especially with a highly inflated price.
The price will come down eventually. Pretty much all the newly released LCD TV’s tend to have a large price tag attached when they’re launched but as the new flat screen technologies become more common with more retailers all trying to grab some share the prices tumble.
I truly believe this is what tv’s will be looking like about 10 or 15 years from now. Is all going to be about curved tv’s and curved monitors.
